Snippets from my five-year diary.
March 20.
*1970 (age 12): 12:00 Dismissal – Spring and Easter Vacation. 2 weeks. YAHOO! (Although) I have to do chores with a capital “C”
Two weeks’ vacation and chores. My dad had a habit of giving me lots of chores during summer and spring vacation. He’d list about nine things, then give me a “chore of my choice” to fill in for number ten. His chores included: clean the tile in the bathroom shower, dust the Venetian blinds, etc. Note, those are not like the little plastic or wood mini-blinds of today. Those were metal blinds that left cuts on the edges of your fingers. I hated cleaning those blinds and probably why I ignore cleaning my mini-blinds today. If you come over and see dusty blinds, you’ll know why.
*1971 (age 13): Sat. A year ago today we took the mouse to the SPCA.
I had to look ahead on last year’s entry to get the details on my mouse. It was my first ‘real’ pet. Before that, I had lizards and other weird wildlife. I got a mouse and named it Marty. Later, we found out she was a Martha. She developed a tumor and we took her to the SPCA to be put down. Interesting that I didn’t even name her in this year’s post.
*1972 (age 14): Mon. Went back to school had fun.
At least school was fun – though I have no idea what we did and why it was so fun.
*1973 (age 15): Tues. Happy Tuesday too. Today me and Vicki got back all of our film with the inner tubes. I took in the film from the party.
We had obtained some very large inner tubes and ended up playing with them in the front yard. I remember Vicki and I took a lot of pictures of us rolling and jumping on them. This is when we had film cameras and we had to wait to get them developed – even if they were blurry. So many blurry, ruined pictures. I’m sure my parents didn’t like all that wasted film.
*1974 (age 16): Wed. I found out our class rings are coming in, on Friday. Yay, finally. Had a couple of tests. Nothing interesting happened with “B.”
Fresno High was a three-year high school, so in 10th grade, we ordered our class rings. Our school colors were purple and gold and I remember how excited I was to get my ring.

Note to self: While it was great to write about your days, taking pictures really helps bring the memories into sharper focus. Good job taking all those pictures!
Counting you “BRAVE” to have a mouse as a pet. Thanks for these posts, Joan. xoA
I loved that mouse. Critters like that never bothered me. 🙂
I love this. Even the shortest entry gives a glimpse of the past. “At least school was fun.” Lol.
Yes, good job on those pics indeed! I was the amateur family photographer too. Must’ve been hard to say goodbye to “Martha.” <3
Yes, Martha was a big deal – for a little mouse.
